Masing inspects completion of Katibas Bridge

KAPIT : Deputy Chief Minister Sarawak Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing who is also the Minister for Infrastructure Development and Transportation on Sunday paid a working visit to Song district to inspect the completion of Sungai Katibas Bridge there.

Accompanying Masing for the visit were the Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development Malaysia, Datuk Alexande Nanta Linggi, Katibas State Assemblyman Datuk Ambrose Blikau Enturn, Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, Kanowit MP Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang,State Assemblyman for Bukit Goram Jefferson Jamit, State Assemblyman for Pelagus, Wilson Nyabong Ijang, Machan State Assemblyman Alen Siden Gramong and political secretaries to the Chief Minister namely Tapah Ata, Nicholas Kudi Jantai and Maurice Giri.

Masing and company were welcomed by a big crowd of some 1000 people upon arrival.

He and some members of the entourage later performed the traditional Iban ‘miring’ ceremoy followed by a fun walk along the 330m Katibas Bridge for the ritual of a pig each at both ends of bridge.

Earlier he attended a briefing on the Katibas Bridge project that was conducted by Publis Works Department Regional Office manager, Cassidy Morris. The Sungai Katibas Bridge project is part of the Construction and Completion of Jalan Song/Sungai Yong costing RM71.5 million. The construction began on 8 September 2014 and was completed on 6 July 2017.

Upon the completion of all the sections of  JalanKapit/Sungai Yong/Jalan Song development projects, Song and Kapit wiil be connected to Sarawak main trunk road through Kanowit. It will be connected to Sarawak population of 66,300 people, Song District with a population of 23600 people and Kanowit District (Ng. Ngungun, Ng. Ngemah and Sg. NgemahHulu, Sg. Poi Hilir and Sg. Poi Hulu with a total population of 10670 people.

The road project is the first all-weather road linking Kapit and Song districts to the state’s main trunk road through Kanowit.
