Empowering Rural Communities Through Connectivity, Sustainability & Tourism

A Simple Initiative, A Big Impact for the Longhouse Community

On 3 May 2025, Regenerative X Association successfully rolled out a meaningful community initiative that has brought new hope and opportunity to a rural longhouse community in Sarawak.

For years, the community had been without internet access—cut off from basic digital services and meaningful connections with loved ones. But thanks to the installation of Starlink satellite internet, this has now changed.

The reaction from the community was truly heartwarming. Many villagers, for the first time, were able to make video calls and send messages to their children living far away in Kuching and other states. The joy of reconnecting after so long was evident and emotional for many.

More importantly, this internet connectivity is now enabling children in the village to access online learning resources, helping to close the gap in education between rural and urban areas. It’s a crucial step forward in ensuring that no child is left behind in today’s digital world.

Alongside the digital efforts, the initiative also supports environmental sustainability and future economic growth. With help from supporting agencies, bamboo seedlings were provided to the community. These can be used not only to improve the environment but also for future carbon credit opportunities and local income generation through furniture-making and other uses.

With internet access now available, the community is also better equipped to explore rural tourism. By sharing their unique culture, traditions, and natural surroundings online, they can attract visitors and grow eco-tourism opportunities—adding another layer of economic potential for the villagers.

Looking ahead, this initiative reflects Regenerative X Association’s continued mission to empower communities through climate-conscious development, digital inclusion, and sustainable livelihoods. What began as a simple act of connection has now become a foundation for long-term growth, learning, and opportunity.

We look forward to expanding similar efforts across other rural communities in Sarawak.
